You will hear the adage about not buying the first year of a car over and over again, but as someone else has pointed out on this board, the 9-5 was out in 98 in Europe, so the 1999 model is not the first year.
That being said, our 99 has been great. I have replaced the SID and the ACC, both under warranty, and that's it. We had far more problems with our 96 900SE at the 4 year mark, which is part of why we got the wagon in 2000. Mine only has 36k on it, I've been gone a lot with the military but it's now getting used as my daily commute car and I love the Speedparts ECU upgrade. It's got Aero power in a year they didn't make the Aero.
I think if you find a 99 that's been taken care of with minimal problems, it can be just as good as a 2000, but at a better price. Yes the HP difference is from the computer mods they did from 99 to 01.
