old, there is no doubt about it. Compare to anything in the near luxury and luxury category, the 9-5 appears rough. Yes, it has a great 4 cylinder engine but it is hampered by the typical flaw of a 4-banger, more so in automatic form. I don't understand if Toyota and Honda can make their 4-bangers purr like a V-6 what is Saab missing ?

The 9-5 is noisy, tire noise, cabin noise, sound insulation etc., certainly below average in class.

Granted it is cheaper than its competition, but the thing is, the 9-5 is threatened not by equivalent near luxury entries but by the up scale mass market mid-size cars, such as the Honda Accord V6, Acura TSX, TL, Camry V6. You give some points for the Saab styling and somewhat exclusive image but that can only carry you that far for a limited number of years.

My usual rant is that if someone can get a loaded Honda Accord V6 or its variants that can run with a 9-5 at a cheaper price why would anyone other than a die-hard Saab fan get a Saab ?

Yes, I am troubled too. Wife got a '03 Aero, so she probably would be happy with that for a few years. I have an aging '95 9000 Aero, and I am looking for its replacement, the old 9K Aero suspension is pretty rough on my old bones, maybe I should start thinking about Lincoln or Cadillac :-).
