Phred, Have to disagree. A LONG time ago, a 3year old car w/50K miles was a lot. These days, it's not. These kind's of issues shouldn't be showing up at this point. Not to mention the ongoing annoyance of regular SID replacements.
I've had MANY other car's that were relatively bulletproof (besides regular maint) up towards the 10yr/200K mark. And this type of reliability and dependability does not mean the car has no personality or fun to drive quota.
The only exception of a newer vehicle w/major repairs was a 1984 Volvo 760 GLE w/the 6cyl Peugot engine that needed valves @ 30K/1 year old mark (almost 20 years ago). The shop said it was likely I'd see them again in 30-50K miles, and I dumped it.
It is frustrating to have issues like the idler pulleys still showing up with Saab. And if you need to have a spare DI in the trunk b/c of eventual failure, Saab should have stuck one in next to the spare tire.
I've dealt w/an older '69 MGB's almopst daily repair syndrome, too. A fun car, but not something I'd ever need to repeat on a daily driver. Of course, next to that one, the Saab looks fantastic! In fairness, they are much better than they used to be, and I've yet to hit a DI failure. If and when I do, I'll be under impressed.
