IIRC correctly, when I looked at this for my 16" wheels, the 225/50-16 was almost exactly a match for the oem 17" aero size. I was checking so I could set the speedometer setting w/the Tech II to the closest tire size option, and that was the closest.
In reality, I think you're just as well w/the 16" tires in future w/be a LOT cheaper than the 17", but I'd also be aware that the wrong wheels may give you a hit on the resale later because the 17" setup is expensive to replace. Depending on the deal you got, I'd take it up with them, as they may have some refinished wheels. I'm one of the few people who prefer that aero wheel to the stock one, but have stayed with the 16" size for a bit more pothole protection.
I'm surprised they "certified" an aero with the wrong wheels; the process must just look for condition of whatever's on the car. In the past, the OEM wheels may have been stolen, or someone along the way may have "swapped" them to someone else for some $$ as an upgrade. I'd argue to the dealer that you at least want the 225 size on the car.
I also took down this site from an earlier thread; it works well to do your own comparison:
