One of the posters suggested pushing the issue up a level to the area Saab service rep and I agree. I'll be contacting him myself to express the concern. Usually this involves anothe visit for further diagnosis, but not always, sometimes they recommend a particular replacement or fix to try.

Another opinion would be availible if you are near one of the other SoCal Saab dealers to the north. It wouldn't take that long to have them drive the car and see what they say.

As this relates to noise, I try and relate noise issues to other ambient sound levels in the car such as: road noise, wind noise, ventilation system noise, roll down a window noise, conversation and even rapping my fingers on the dash noise. So when you have to roll up the windows, turn the ventilation system completely off (I tried to leave it on the lowest fan speed as it was hot out, but he insisted on turning it completely off) drive a certain speed, accelerate gently and then listen very carefully, cock your head, be quiet, can't you hear that woosh? Which is no where as loud as any of these other normal car noises which to me says it's not a defect to be concerned about. I can hear some wooshing under those conditions, it's very subtle, and a new 2002 does the same noise for me.

That was our best determination at the time, Larry the advisor, Jesus the mechanic, Don our trouble shooter and I, all rode in Benny's car and the 2002. I drove Benny's car around myself first and couldn't hear anything. Jesus the mechanic took me for a ride and demonstrated "the noise" which was very subtle, 30 mph, mild acceleration, a whirr and a woosh, sounds like normal turbo induction noises if you listen very, very carefully, and a new 2002 did the same thing.

But here's where the old Saturn training kicks in, many valid complaints can be very subtle, this one is and it doesn't seem to be a concern for any safety or reliability issues, but that doesn't mean there won't be a fix, we'll keep trying. I'd love for something to be broken or speak up, but service replaced the turbo o-ring the first time even though it was fine and to generally inspect for defects and nothing has been found.

Thank you Benny for being courteous and patient with us too. Hooter valve, air filter installation, new turbo, contact the factory rep, second dealer's opinion, are all on the table.
