The big electrical problem with the 99 9-5s was the ECU being improperly manufactured. I would ensure that the one in this car has been replaced. The only electrical failure mine has had is the blower motor for the heat/ac. It happened after warranty and cost about $400 installed. Having a DI Cassette is a good idea with these cars. I bought a new one at 110,000 miles and the original is now a spare. As this is a b/b where folks exchange repair info, many do not have problems. As you can see in Consumer Reports, later Saabs are doing quite well. The 9-5 came out in 1998 in Europe so it had been around a short time before being sold nhere as 1999s. Also, highly recommend using Mobil 1 oil and changing at 5K intervals. Much discussion here about that too.
