Instructions with beautiful color photos were posted here in the past for an inexpensive D-I-Y repair. Most readers have had trememdous luck performing it. Unfortunately I wasn't one of them.

Two hints:
1) Buy a set of DIN radio removal tools from WalMart, less than $4USD for two pieces of heavy gage bent wire. Radio is removed by inserting the tools into the four small holes on the radio faceplate, exerting slight outward pressure on the tools, then pulling the radio straight out of the dash.
2) Display unit is a friction fit in the dash opening. On my car it is an extremely tight friction fit - but there is no latch or lock. Just reach behind and pull straight out, very hard if necessary.
