The 2000 9-5 SE came with a V6 and automatic *only*. There were no manual models nor 4 cyl versions of the SE (not sold in the US, at least). The base 9-5 and the Aero came with the 2.3L and either a 5 speed or a 4 speed automatic. The 1999 SE model came with a 4 cyl but AFAIK only with an automatic. So I'm not sure what car you're looking at.

As far as V6 reliability goes, you can use the search function and enter "V6" and "SE" and you'll find close to 500 posts discussing this model. The "Which Is Better, 4 Cyl vs. V6" battle ranks right up there with the "Which Oil Is Better" and "What's The Best Tire" as the most controversial yet pedantic discussion in this particular forum. Bottom line is the 3.0L V6 is proving to be as reliable, and perhaps more reliable, than the worshipped 2.3L 4 cyl. So it all depends on what floats yer boat. Both are fine choices.
