As I described in an earlier post, I replaced my OEM BPV with a TurboXS unit, which must be installed 'backwards' due to its size.
It flows well, but there has been a strange discharge noise, like a grunt. I 'corked' the BPV to make it faster, yet another post, and that improved things. But some noise remained.
It has been hot, and 112F on the streets today. But a thuderstorm, unusual for these temperatures, knocked the temps down along with a weak cold front. So I removed the tube and cut away the flashing with a mill bit in a flex shaft. I would not want abrasives need the plastic. It was not an easy job... I don't say that often.
To remove, one 7mm host clamp at the TB and at the other end. Two torx screws for the air temp sensor, one 13mm bolt to the flange on the block. The IAT sensor cable is inder a wire wrap, but it can be released and reused.
I went out for a car wash, tank of gas and a box of beer. The BPV discharge is now just a muffled or remote whoosh. I did not hear any of the grunt sound. So perhaps the flashing in the air stream was making the grunt noise. But, in any case, if you drop cash on a trick high flow BPV, its silly to have those gross flashings in the air stream. And the part that is utrasonically welded to the tube that created the flash was also mis aligned, so there was another problem other than the flashing, but I was able to fix that too.
This whole tube sort of sucks. The tube seems to be needlessly constricted. And it is flattened or squashed to create a flat for the BPV fitting to be welded on. And with a sharp edged exit to the BPV, its really not good from a resistance point of view.
So, its worth fixing but getting familiar with the warts does detract from the satifaction of fixing one detail.
And I have to say once again, that the SMBC is really a great performance mod. First and 2nd gear are a love affair.
