-- in texas you won't get the tax benefit of no tax up to the amount of your trade with carmax. Carmax is dead set against it -- they want you to trade your car with them and buy one from them so they won't give a buy bid to you or a dealer. At least thats what I know.
Make sure they aren't giving you a trade-in value that includes your "tax benefit" which texas dealers so often do -- thats BS. At $21K your trade is worth $1300 in tax savings so don't forget that.
BTW - those numbers are high - they sound like MSRP rates with an OK trade. Maybe they are boosting your trade thinking you are going to pay MSRP. You can get better numbers than that.
