Dear Saabfans,
Fighting with my family over a new estate: Saab 9-5 Linear 2.3t or Volvo V-70 (S and 170 hp, no turbo). Being a Saab fan and all other differences aside, the size of the boot is prime bone of contention. Confusion reigns here, both in "official" data and in consumer organisation comparisons. A big point seems to me a lack of definition on how boot space is measured.
Compare Edmunds.com (US website), and Whatcar.com (UK website). There may be more, but these I've looked at.
Whatcar.com:
Saab bootspace 416 litre, Volvo 485 litre (no definition of what this measures, presumably 2nd row up and up to glass line).
Edmunds.com:
Saab bootspace (OK, trunk... this is a US website after all) in 2 ways:
1 - "maximum luggage capacity" Saab 37 cu. feet, Volvo 37.5 cu. feet (I take this to be 2nd row up and to glass line)
2 - "Maximum cargo capacity" Saab 73 cu. feet, Volvo 72 cu. feet (I take this to be 2nd row down and to ceiling of car)
With Whatcar the Volvo space is clearly bigger, with Edmunds this is rather equal, with the "big" option having Saab even exceeding the Volvo (as well it might!) . Is this because you have so much more space at the rear seats in the Saab?
Can anyone explain these data, or are they ALL wrong??
Thanks for suggestions,
Michiel
