If the engine knock avoidance is not working, I would first check the plugs as these are what the system used to read the in-cylinder conditions. Pull them out and see how they look. Check the gap. The spec for the gap is .8mm or around .035".
These must be a resistor type plug and really should be NGK BPCR6ES11 or 7ES11. NGK platinums may be installed. If the plugs are not NGK, then the plugs may be the problem.
Problems such as this are oc course aggrevated by the wrong octane levels. What octane is recommended in your owners manual? And fouled injectors with poor spray patterns don't help. Use a good fuel system cleaner, which is not the same as basic injector cleaner. Still a simple pour into the tank procedure. A good fuel system cleaner will also remove some of the combustion chamber deposits which form hot spots. These increase the octane requirement of the engine. The right cleaners can reduce this aquired octane demand.
Filling with high octane will be an inexpensive determination of whether the problems responds to higher octane fuel.
There can be a lot of air flow noise when on boost. But it does not hurt to do an inspection for hoses and clamps. An air leak when on boost would tend to reduce boost and make the mixture richer, which would tend to inhibit knocking. So my first reaction is that this is not the case, unless the leak is between the MAF and the turbo compressor. So that would include the bypass pipe back from the BPV to the intake between the MAF and the turbo.
