Koni vs Bilstein with Eibach springs (opinions?)

I decided to pull the trigger on the Eibach Pro-system kit (springs and dampers) for my 2000 2.3LPT sedan. Now I find that the kit is back ordered until march of 2004! I can't wait that long.
I am leaning towards going with a Bilstein and Eibach spring combo (have latest Aero anti-sway bars) but I do not want to make the ride too harsh.
The ability to adjust the Koni's is attractive but I am not sure how Koni on their softest setting compare to the Bilsteins. I have been told that Koni set soft are about 20% more firm than typical OEM dampers. Fully cranked down they are ~120% of OEM dampers.
Does anyone know where Bilstein rates relative to OEM (or Koni for that matter) in terms of firmness?
I have also been told that part of the appeal of Bilsteins is that they have a sort of auto "tuning" nature that allows them to ride softer on smooth roads and firmer under load conditions. Is this just sales and marketing "hype" or an actual superiority over the Koni design?
Again, my goal is to substantially improved handling while keeping the car reasonably comfortable. The cost between Koni and Bilstein is not an issue nor is dealing with any installation issues.
Does anyone out there have any direct comparison experience between Koni and Bilstein? Thanks in advance for any feedback.
