Interestingly, I was just getting ready to post some information regarding the "musty odor" problem that has been discussed a couple of times on this board.
I have an '02 5 Spd Aero sedan. I purchased the car in August of last year and had not had the musty odor problem until recently. My driveway slopes toward the back yard and I generally leave the car pointing down hill. In the past four to six weeks, however, I had left it pointing uphill for a couple of prolonged periods of time. On the order of one to two weeks with very little driving. I had been vacationing/traveling in the family car during this time period. Upon driving the car again I discovered a musty odor!
The odor wasn't too bad and aired out when I opened the windows and ran the AC on high for a while. I noticed it again about a week later after the car had again sat pointing up hill for a while.
I recalled that the car has a tendency to leave a good deal of water on the drive when I drive away and thought that, perhaps, the water was collecting, when pointing up hill, so as to allow the musty odor problem to occur. I've since begun parking pointing down hill again and have had no problem.
Of course, I am driving the car more and the weather has changed here in New York to a cooler average temperature.
Still, something to think about. There clearly *is* a good deal of water remaining within the car's condensation egress paths while at rest.
Perhaps someone more knowledgeable could discuss/describe the AC condensation drain system to either enforce or debunk my theory?
Cheers,
Dave
