I'm one of those people who likes to know how far I drive before the car is truley empty and stops running (Remember the Seinfeld episode with Kramer test driving the 900?). Anyway, last week I pushed it as far as I dared (for now). I probably drove it another 50 miles after the guage first hit the 'E' area and the light came on. When the gauge started to really look empty, I pulled into a gas station near my home and it drank 17.1 Gallons. So according to the stated capacity of 18.9, I still had almost another 2 gallons (or 50 miles) left.
Yes, this was an exercise in stupidity, but I like to be able to judge if it's safe to wait until the next major rest stop when driving on highways, or whether I should get off and search for gas in areas I don't know. I'm almost inclined to set how far I can really go, but that would require me driving around with a can of gas in the trunk and my gut feeling is that running a car dry can not be good for the fuel delivery system on many different levels. (The car is fast as hell without all the extra fuel weight - the difference was blatently obvious after fill-up).
Later,
Kevin
