Tim.. I do recall your older post regarding the the filing out of the hole, but after inspecting it, decided against that as it's not visibly an issue. In my case, I found the drivers side grill seems to be ok. (not 100 percent.. but close). The passenger side is where I find that the grill is slightly raised .. particularly along the edge meeting the windshield. The edges along the two sides adjacent to the dash on the other hand are perfectly flush, so cosmetically you don't notice any change. That being the case, I was thinking of inserting a small piece of foam/weather stripping along that window edge to prevent it from possibly rattling.. but it appears to be ok...
Good question about the lack of space altering its performance.. I am not sure at this point.. One easy test is to simply remove the grills and see if you notice much of a change... I'll probably be experimenting with a few things like that myself in the upcoming weeks.. but if you don't hear any rattles or buzzes, then I suspect the performance impact is minimal, if any .. which is true of any grill.
