1) I made the switch to Mobil 1 on both of my Saabs: 1999 9-3 at 51K which now has 87K and a 2000 9-5 at 48K which now has 64K. No seal problems either. I was aware of the "cleaning" sythetics tend to do engines with a high dino oil diet so I used 3K oil/filter change intervals for the first 3 time (total of 9K). I now use 5K intervals.
2) Not sure about the tranny secret. Howecer, there a few proven engine cleaners on the market that designed specifically for cleaning engines and aren't that expensive.
3) I know certain cars like Honda/Acura use a crush washer. This type is slightly bent so that when you torque your drain bolt back in the pan, the washer will "crush" or flatten and create some resistence to prevent the bolt from unscrewing. I don't know if Saab recommends changing this every time but it won't hurt. I only replace the washers (oil) once a year.
