Thanks for the kind words.

As I said, we wanted to get an early start each day so we would leave anywhere between 3:30 and 5AM and get a solid 5 hours in before the kids needed to eat. Sometimes the kids slept during that time and other times they were awake. The roads were quiet and we always made good time. We would then stop for breakfast around 9AM and hit the road again around 10AM until lunch at 12:30. On the first day we tried to continue until around 4-5PM and then stop at a hotel only to repeat the process the next morning. This rountine resulted in approximately 650 miles covered on the first day. The second day was a relatively quick 5 hours and we were there.

While it's not a touristy time of year to travel, I would still find a good stopping point for the first day and make a reservation. We used one Quality Inn and one Comfort Inn. Both were excellent and reasonably priced.

The kids napped on and off throughout the whole car ride but were never asleep when we arrived at a hotel. They went down easy every night probably because they didn't nap well in the car.

Our trip began on a Thursday morning and we arrived at our destination by Friday afternoon. We stayed until the following Sat (basically one week) and were back in New York by late Sunday morning.

I95 is going to be a bit of a pain for you from what I understand. It's obviously very heavily traveled and rife with construction. If you're a AAA member, get a trip tik as they will point out construction and speed enforcement zones.

Good luck!
