The gas smell and the check engine light might be related and might be caused by a leaking or improperly tightened gas cap. The car senses the lack of pressure and puts on the check engine light.

As for tires, I always buy from an internet site (like tirerack.com) and have a local shop mount and balance them for me. The markup by a shop like Midas is at least 100%. Also, the tires on the 9-5 are high performance tires. If you don't intend to go 120MPH+ each day to work, you can get more reasonably priced tires for about $60-70 each. They have a lower "speed rating" but you can still drive all day with them at 90+ MPH.

As for the exhaust, definitely DO NOT go to Midas or the local shop. I've seen more than a few Saabs with hacked up exhausts. What they do is grab their 'generic' muffler then make it fit by bending pipe. Go to a real Saab mechanic (see the Mechanics link below) and have them replace it. It might still be $360, but it will be the correct exhaust and you won't have any future problems with it.
