I know on the pre-02 Aero, the tranny is cooled by the radiator and installing a stand alone oil cooler hooked to the transmission cooling lines will provide extra heat dissipation over what the radiator can provide...heat is the main enemy of the transmission, lower the temperature, increase the amount of power the trans can handle. I know the 4 speed is fairly durable but I am not sure about the 5 speed. I would guess it is at least as durable as the 4 speed. As far as the TCM limiting power, I have yet to receive a definitive answer for this. The TCM is programmed to limit torque but it seems logical to assume the remapping of the ECU includes programming for the TCM (transmission control module). If this was not the case, the stage 1 ECU would be pointless on an automatic because torque would be limited to factory levels anyway. I know the stage 1 produces more torque than factory, but I cannot verify exacy levels until I dyno the car. Chipcenter sells an oil cooler modified to fit the 9-5 auto but they are asking $850 not including shipping or installation. Installing the stage 3 parts (downpipe, exhaust, intake pipe, cat) with a stage 1/2 ECU will not produce peak power levels higher than the ECU is rated for, but will provide faster spooling for the turbo and less back pressure reducing heat and work load on the engine.
