Rethinking oil change places . . .

On Sunday I was looking at my schedule for this week, trying to see where I could fit in an oil change at the dealer, knowing that I'd have to drop off the car in the morning, and pick it up before close. Hectic week, didn't know when I'd find the time. This is an interim 5K oil change, so the dealer isn't going to do anything "special," and it's not one of the oil changes that Saab picks up the tab on.

So, on a lark, I went to our local quick oil change place, Oil Can Henry's. I brought my own oil (Amsoil), and my own filter (Saab oil filter).

And I came away impressed!

They had video cameras pointed under my car, and under the hood. I watched the guy remove the current filter, and let all the oil drain away. He even waited a good 15 minutes or so after the filter was removed, and didn't put the new one on until there was no more oil dripping out. I got to watch the guy put my oil into the car, and watched the guy under the car secure the drain plug back to the oil filter very carefully. Even had a nice little discussion with them -- they like Saabs because the filter is easily accessible, etc., etc.

In any case, I'm thinking for the interim oil changes at the 25K, 35K, etc. mile marks, I'm just going to go to them -- I was generally surprised at the level of professionalism at this place, and was pleased to see the cameras that let me watch the whole thing going on. I had previously discounted quickee oil change places . . . .
