I just bought a 9-5 Aero over an Acura TL that I had actually put down a deposit on before they were even available for test drives. That "270 hp @ 5300 rpm/238 ft-lb @ 5000 rpm" is one strange power plant. I was neither comfortable nor impressed with watching the tach nearly redline in each gear during hard acceleration - and this was the automatic. Up to 6000, down to 2500, up to 6000, back down, etc. The car pulled it off surprisingly smoothly, but all I could think was, "this thing's gonna explode." Of course, it won't, and I'll be the one in and out of service in getting all the expensive/early repairs on my new Aero (charcoal green with graphite interior), but you gotta take chances.
However, I would agree that there are some weak spots in the 9-5 keeping it from shining in the low-end lux/performance division. I assume there's a thread where owners have listed their design ideas/wish list, so I won't go into it here. But for now, I am thoroughly enjoying the ride on my new Aero (and first Saab, after mostly VW's and one errant Celica).
