I added an auto dimming, map light, temp display rearview mirror to my car.
In part, I was definately looking for better map lightage than the stock single swivelling option which is a PIA as far as I'm concerned. I often need map lights for both sides in front, and the oem design must be moved incessantly, putting the driver then the passenger on hold, and being a major distraction <end of rant>.
I decided to go with the temp display to keep on eye on the "actual" inside temperature since I often travel with a dog. I've not decided on a mounting point for the temperature probe. I've got a fair amount of leeway, as the probe was designed to be out below the front bumper, so there are long leads.
In the past, with different thermometer's I've had the probes up in the upper console, which gets affected by the outside temperature's due to the proximity to the roof, but works reasonably well except in temperature extremes, which is where I'd like a bit more accuracy. A digital thermometer between the headliner and the sun visor has worked reasonably well, too, but with some of the same roof effect, probably due to airflow restriction in that part of the car.
If left in the dash, the probe takes a while to respond as the lower kick panels keep the air circulation from getting up there for quite a while. I wanted to stay clear of the distribution vents, too.
Any good idea's?
Thanks,
Matthew
