Since this is a quick, easy, and inexpensive D-I-Y job go with 30,000 miles. There is no filter or screen, just 3+ quarts of fluid.
The Saab recommended oil is Texaco Havoline DEXRON-III. Texaco gas is not sold in my state (Michigan), but Texaco oils are carried in a number of national chain stores including my local Kroger!
If Texaco can't be found use another name brand DEXRON-III labeled oil. Saab says to NOT use synthetic due to differences in lubricity and risk of clutch plate burning with the higher lubricity synthetics. Unlike engines, transmissions require some friction between components (notably the clutch packs) to operate properly.
A number of posters are currently using synthetics without any reported problems, so maybe Saab will change their position on synthetic automatic transmission fluid in the future.
