Asking which oil is like asking what's the 'best' religion.
My two cents, is change your oil frequently because that's the cheapest insurance you'll ever buy for your car. I use (minimum) 10w-30 with genuine Saab filter and change around 5k miles - that is my comfort level and you will have your own.
My second piece of advice is to find a good indie Saab mechanic and have him do your oil and all non-warantee service. Mainly this is because when your car is up on the lift they'll usually give a quick look over to check for other problems and as a Saab mechanic they'll know what to look for. Sure I could save $15 bring it to a quick lube joint, but how important is your Saab to you?
Cheers,
Kevin
p.s.
GM/Saab decided a couple years back to advocate lighter-weight oils. This was done more for CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) reasons than sound engineering reasons. By reducing the weight (PROTECTION) of the oils they were able to squeeze a little more economy out of the vehicles allowing them to sell more USVs. They also reduced the change interval because that allows them to have 'less poluting' vehicles, because oil is now rightfully considered a waste by-product of owning an automobile. All of this adds up to your having less protection for longer periods of time. Do a search on the 9-5 group for 'sludge' for more info on the rammifications of this.
