I just purchased a 2000 9-5 in very good condition from a dealer with a Certification. I'm very excited (I don't yet have the car, will be picking it up on Monday), but have a couple of questions...
1) I hate the banana key fobs that I'm getting with the car, and want to know if I can somehow get the integrated remote/key units for this car? If so, anyone have any pointers on places to get them cheap...??
2) I haven't yet read the manual (since I don't have it), but it seems from the little bit of playing I did that tuning the radio to a station that it doesn't automatically find when seeking is difficult. Is there any way to switch from seek to manual tune (on my old 95 900S I could do this by pushing in the center of the two-sided seek button and this would switch from seek to manual tune)?
3) What exactly is in that rectangular box in the the trunk lid when you lift the trunk up?
4) I go to school in Rochester, NY (although I purchased the car back home in NJ). Will this car do well in the snowy, icy weather of Upstate NY? Does Traction Control help?
5) I noticed that there appears to be two cigarette lighters/power adapters in the car, one in the back and one in the front. However, the front one was simply capped and the back one didn't have anything. Will these both function as either power adapters and cigarette lighters, or is one or both of these only a power adapter? And if one or both of them are cigarette lighters, can I use the cigarette lighters from my old 95 900S in them?
6) Anyone ever had any problems with the Weather Band feature not finding any Weather Band in there Saab's? When I took a 9-3 for a test drive and hit the WB button, it found one, but in the same area when I took the 9-5 for a test drive and hit the WB Button, I got no WB found message...
7) Should the map light be stiff and hard to move, or should it move relatively easily? Is this something that can be fixed under the certified warranty?
8) Does the certified warranty cover loaner cars from every dealership, or only the dealership that certifies the car? If it is from every dealership, will I be able to use a loaner car being that I'm only a 22-yr old college student?
9) The reason I'm getting a new Saab is because my old 95 900S was totaled by our insurance company after someone ran a red light and hit me while I was driving it. It was definitely a bad accident, but luckily I wasn't hurt, thanks most likely to the safety of the 95 900S Saab. Are these 2000 9-5's just as safe, if not safer?
10) In my old 95 900S, the manual told me to use the middle-grade gas, and so that's always what I used. The salesperson told me I could continue to use middle-grade gas in this 2000 9-5, and I just wanted to confirm that I could use that and shouldn't be using the high grade gas...??
11) Can someone confirm that the side-view mirrors on the 2000 9-5's are heated? And what does the little button next to the area where you adjust these mirrors do??
I apologize if I asked too many questions, but I probably have many more I just haven't thought of yet. I'm very excited about getting this car, and want to make sure I have all the information. Thanks in advance to everyone who can offer me some help or information. Also, please feel free to let me know any other information or suggestions you think I might find useful as a 2000 9-5 owner !!
Thanks!
Sincerely,
Marc Bressman
