it was just over a year ago that i went through this. the first level of call takers at saab usa are trained to be sympathetic, try to make you feel better but in effect cannot do much for you. you have to find a way to get past them to a person who can make decisions. i believe that i did this by contacting a manager responsibile for customer service/quality issues. Not only did i get the di at no charge, but also some credits towards maintenance/service. But i did do some homework on what i feel is poor application of technology, that being the di used in the 9-5 and presented this info to them as well. I also pointed out that this my 3rd Saab, and had numerous issues (all too true), and basically made them feel that they were responsible, which i belive is also true. but the whole approach was diplomatic.
If that fails, tell the dealer you'll buy a DI from eeuro and install it yourself, and if you have been getting your service at the dealer, you intend to go elsewhere. the dlr should at least sell to you at cost, likely under $ 275.
good luck - i like the car a lot, but IMO there is no excuse for using a technology in the ignition system which has long known reliability drawbacks.
