You should change the plugs every 30K miles or so. I see a big difference when the plugs are changed. The direct ignition system in a Saab puts a big load on the plugs and they seem to deteriorate quicker than on most cars. I would use the standard specified plugs designated for the car. You can find the spec in the owner's manual. The DI is sensitive to plugs, so use what is specified to avoid any problems.
If the car has never been tuned up in 77K miles, you should also change the air filter, the cabin air filter, the antifreeze, and the fuel filter. Personally, I find changing the air and cabin filters a cinch, but like to take the car to an independent shop to have the antifreeze and fuel filter changed (it is a messy job). While you are there, have them check the serpentine drive belt.
Some site sponsors offer a complete tune up kit for an all-inclusive price, and the price is less than buying each part individually.
