Pat, I would have to venture the opinion that Saab under designed the crankcase ventilation system on the 1999 and 2000 2.3 ltr models. Funny thing is that i recall the service bulletin calls for enlarging some of the diameters on the breather ports, and when i removed the breather box, the capacity for larger passages has always been there. Nothing about needing larger diameter hoses. The service bulletin itself is written in rather vague language about " special operating conditions" or something to that effect.
Anyways, my car suffers from a rear crank seal leak. And, 18 months ago while under warranty, the car went in to have an oil leak from the timing
chain cover fixed. The dealer said nothing or did nothing regarding the PCV modifications. Seems to me Saab should be more responsible and have done a voluntary service upgrade to all the cars potentially impacted, rather than wait for the "excessive oil consumption" to occur, meaning a leak from whatever particular engine seal gets blown out. It's too late then.
