When I tested the 540 back to back with Aero the 540 took 7 seconds to go from 60-75 when locked in top gear, the 5 speed Aero took 3.5 seconds over the same stretch of road. The bimmer launches great till about 35 mph, but runs out of steam, The aero is faster and much more efficient.( at least at 6000ft where I live) in order for the BMW to be as efficient it would have to produce 479hp(69hp/liter vs 108 hp/liter). when I calculated the cost of driving the BMW for 100,000 miles vs the saab, the extra gas was nearly $4000. I didn't feel the BMW offered any value, although it's a great car, it's not that much better. And when you hit high altitude(+9000 feet, the 4.4l bimmer gasps and wheezes, saab still flies.)
