That hasn't been my experience. I think the lease agreements require the vehicle be serviced regularly, and Saab includes service through the first 36K miles.
I looked up the original selling dealer and another that was listed as having performed warranty repairs/recall campaigns and called them with the VIN number. The service managers was able to tell me the car had been serviced regularly during it's initial warranty period.
My car, like scottyman's was purchased off eBay. At the time it had 56k miles. I got it for $thousands less than I'd have paid through other sources, and since it was a wholesaler offering, it came fully detailed and cleaned up. The SID was dropping pixels so they swapped it with one from another car they had. They also had a dingman work some door dings out (many of which weren't noticable in normal light. For all intents and purposes, the car looked and drove as new.
I now have over 79K miles. The only repairs that have been required since then were to replace tires, rear brake pads, battery, and the DIC, and I now need a check valve for the windshield washer system. Total cost for 23K miles was <$900 -which left me budget to buy a spare DI, an upgraded ECU, and a set of snow tires and rims.
