The car is a sedan with original springs. When I bought it this June with 63,000 km (about 40,0000 mi) I was very happy with the ride. But with a full load of passengers and a trunkful, I noticed right rear side would deflect bit lower on highway dips. Also, if this side hit a rough spot /pothole, I could feel the rear slightly bounce to the right. These are both signs of uneven shock wear. I was able to find Bilsteins on-line for only $8 US per shock more than OE from Eeuroparts.
With the new Bilsteins, the ride is even side-side and definately more controlled. I like the feel on big smooth dips or rises BUT those pesky pavement joint bumps drive me nuts now; especially on a concrete road where they go on for blocks and blocks. These cross the road at a right angle and are hit squarely by both wheels.
I appreciate your suggestion on reducing tire air pressure. Frankly, I don't think this will help much considering the 30-32 I am running on OE size Bridgestone Turanza youring tires. The seat in the pants feeling is that the harshness is shock related. However, I will try running at 27-28 psi for a while.
I also bought the AERO swaybar upgrade from Tailiaferro and have installed the rear bar only so far ( only 1mm dia greater than stock bar) This wouldn't affect the ride on uniform height bumps hit squarely by both wheels.
I didn't want to spend the money for the lower AERO ssprings at this time and my instinct is to try fresh OE shocks and leave well enough alone. The swaybars are a must though. My 1993 Taurus wagon cornered flatter than my 9-5!
