Tensioner Bearing failed - Compression failure

I own a '99 9-5 w/ 75K miles, had the timing belt replaced in January at 62K during 60K service at SAAB dealer. Friday I lost compression due to a failed tensioner bearing, causing timing to skip, and am looking at a bill over $5,000. Tech says timing belt did not fail, damaged valves, tensioners, pulleys, and water pump also needs replaced.
There was no warning of this coming, no engine noise, pulley noise, etc.
Any insight or info as to why this might happen or that might help me get Saab to help pay for repairs?
Thanks in advance for any help. I am not a gear-head so please keep in mind when replying...
