You should try to avoid removing the crankshaft pulley since it is not the part that failed. Without a very big torque wrench it is hard to get off and equally hard to torque properly.
I'd suggest using a blowtorch or heatgun to burn off the remaining bits of the belt (wear a facemask when doing this!). Don't heat the pulley up (it has a rubber insulating center)... just burn off the bits of rubber in the grooves.
Then use alcohol on a rag to clean off the surface of the pulley (and allow a few minutes for the alcohol to evaporate before putting the belt back on). This will leave a very clean surface.
Be careful not to point the torch or heatgun at the rubber interior of the pulley, or at the crankshaft seal!
