Car quit, and lost all electrical power Posted by Aerosmith [Email] (#1945) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Aerosmith) on Wed, 10 Dec 2003 20:27:24 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My '00 Aero completely shut down while I was driving this evening. It happened in an instant - engine stalled, dash and exterior lights completely out. No sputtering or anything unusual beforehand.
I made my way over to the shoulder and stopped, then surprisingly re-started the car with no trouble at all! Drove away just fine - no stumbling and all the lights/electrical worked perfectly. Two other starts later in the evening also showed no problems at all.
Any idea what gives? The car has 37,000 miles on it and I still have some warranty left. Doesn't sound like a DI (although I carry a spare) or an alternator, or even a fuse. Maybe it's the ECM? I'm usually pretty good at diagnostics but this one has me scratching my head - not to mention the paranoia about future trips. I thought about a dealer visit but those are usually unsuccessful if they can't replicate the failure. Any thoughts would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Tom
