Hi all,
The insurance company totaled the car and sent us a check for the value of the car. The Blue Book was around $17,000, but me managed to talk them up to $20,500. That amount finished paying off the loan, and left a little extra for a down payment on a replacement car.
We didn't get to keep the car, although it would have been great if we could have. We did convince them to let us keep the alloys/tires as long as there were some kind of tires on. I had just put a brand new $600 set of tires on 2 weeks before. We put the steel wheels/snow tires on and kept the alloys for snow tires on the AERO. Unfortunately this happened before I knew about the common problems of the DI and the SID, so we didn't take either of those. Kicking myself on that one now!
One interesting thing, when we were emptying the car, we tried to start it, and it started right up. It didn't run long though. The fuel pump cuts out in an accident, so it only ran until it used up the fuel pressure in the lines. The alarm still chirped too.
