2001 9-5 Aero Battery

The battery in my 2001 Aero just died and I'm trying to decide whether or not to just replace it, myself, or have the dealer do it. I read the warranty where it metioned that the cost would be prorated, but only the material cost. I assume that a new Saab battery would be more expensive and that I would have to pay 3/5's of it, plus the labor to install. I have a top of the line Energizer for $80 that I can drop in, myself. I assume that the cost savings by going to the dealer, if any, would not warrant the trip, and it may cost more.
Does anybody have any advice on this? (I'd call the dealer, ,myself, but this is Sunday and I would like to take care of it, today, if the answer is obvious).
Also, if I do change the battery, myself, could I hook a small trickle charger to the car while the battery is out to keep all of my system settings or would that screw anything up? Or, are those settings saved in flash memory and I don't need to worry about losing them?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
