I have 2 SAABS and love them both. My '99 9-5 Wagon has been problematic with electrical/electronic glitches. Nothing serious, but annoyances with relay switches and the like. I normally do not put much faith in Consumer Reports, however after owning mine for 2 years I did notice their ratings listed electrical problems wit 9-5 Wagons that seem to be fixed on '00 an newer models. I would look into the '00 instead of a '99. Let me tell you its a great car, in fact I am going to try to trade my '01 9-3 in for a second 9-5 wagon this Summer.

The 99 9-5 wagon also has a potentially costly repair with the heater box. A door that opens and closes the heater box had an unreliable shaft. Saab has a repair kit for this, and any repair shop will be aware of it. If this problem hits you outside of warranty, its a grand to repair, because a lot of labor is required to take off the dashboard. Mine went out on my 49th month of ownership, I raised a stink, and SAAB compensated my local dealership for most of the repair costs.

Count on going through tires, brakes, and rotors like no other car you have owned. I get 20K miles out of the OEM tires, 12K out of Michelin Pilots. This round I put on the same Pirellis they sell on the '04 models. I don't count on much more mileage, however the tires are $50 less each. The Continental extreme contact tires seem to get great reviews, however noone can seem to get them in.

I replace my OEM brake pads and front rotors with EBC ones (Nick at taliaferro saab can get you them).

You won't regret the SAAB purchase IMO
