New Tires = Balance but what about an Alignment

I just bought a new set of 215/55WR-16 Michelin Pilot Sport A/S for my wife's 99 2.3 LPT 9-5 SE. This is her first set of replacement tires for the OEM Michelins which really were not too good in the wet and occasional snow. She only has 24K on this car (4 mile commute to work round-trip-location, location, location) Anyway, I don't think I've ever had her car in for an alignment. Should I spend the extra $100 beyond the $171 per tire (from Tire Rack) to make sure the tires wear right from the outset?
I have noticed some slight pulling but I attributed to the feathering on the tread of the original OEM Michelins.
I recently put 17" Sumitomo HTRs on my 9-3 w/o an alignment with no apparent ill effects. Any pearls of wisdom appreciated? Also, should I get it aligned at tire store or a SAAB dealer? My independenet mechanic just moved from close by digs to more distant digs and I may have to start using the dealers again.
