up here in the north our winters are merciless. Nonetheless, I got caught up early this season with my summer performance tires when the ground had less then 1/2 inch of snow and I had ZERO traction. They had as much traction as a hockey puk. I'm not sure what type of weather you've got in the DC area but if you get any type of snow or ice on the roads, do your family a favor and get them off her car ASAP.
