No problems with chipping on mine - I think there's a certain amount of variability in the paint job, especially the clear coat colors. I had a "Rose Quartz" 9000 that seemed to chip more than any other Saab before or since. I've thought there should be a standardized test for chipping - a spring loaded ball bearing or something that applies a calibraded ding to the surface with instruction that if it chips, the papint is bad and the car deserves repainting.
Saab carries a relatively small number of colors in its pallette, owing to the relatively small number of cars sold. Red, white, black, and silver are more-less permanant, as is a dark metallic blue and a darker silver (which has ranged from Edwardian Grey to Steel Grey during the past few decades). The rest of the colors are kind of variable, depending on the fashion of the day and the sales numbers. Cosmic Blue was offered in '99, went away for '00 and '01, came back for '02 and '03, and is now gone again.
Stateside not all colors are available in all models, although I imagine that in Europe you can order any color on any model so long as that color is used in the factory. For example, Lime Green is only used in the Convertible factory in Austria, so even Peter Augustsson's brother in law would be unable to get a sedan in that color;-)
