Update... OE vs. Bilstein rear shocks. Changed back!

I had posted a few weeks ago that I had installed new rear Bilstein HD rear shocks on my 1999 9-5 SE V6 because one of the original shocks was weak. After enjoying the new control for a few days, I realized I was unhappy with the ride quality over a lot of the local roads where heaved frost joints are like mini-speed bumps... sometimes for blocks. The ride was great over smooth bumps and dips but so annoying (to me) over small sharp bumps, I just replaced the Bilsteins with a fresh set of OE Sachs-made shocks ordered from the dealer.
I am happy again! The ride quality is better than the used OEs and while not as controlled as the Bilsteins, much more like what I want from my Saab.
If I lived in the southern US where frost joints etc. aren't as much of an issue, I would have kept the Bilsteins. So, think carefully about "upgrading" to non-OE spec shocks if you want to keep a pleasant ride on certain road types.
BTW, the OE shocks came with all new upper bushings and bump-stops which were not included with the Bilsteins.
Happy holidays to all!
