Wow, third gear and German Castrol continue to impress me in the Aero.

First, my car outran an MB C36 AMG, and now, a brand new MB E-class (if only for a few seconds!)

I usually drive rather conservatively, shifting below 3,000 rpm. Coming around a corner, I accelerated sedately, and moved into the left lane, because I'd have to make a left about 3 miles down the road.

As I checked my mirror, I saw a shiny silver Mercedes E-Class behind me. He moved into the left lane also, but then he moved quickly back into the right lane, in an attempt to overtake my conservative-looking steel gray sedan.

Well, I was still in third gear, and so I punched it. The RPM was at a rather sweet spot of the torque curve (about 2,200 rpm) and my Aero lept forward, summoning overboost, I'm sure.

The MB guy punched it too, but his slushbox (automatic) probably took WAY too long to downshift... denied!

Hahahaha! We caught up to some cars ahead of us, so he eventually gave up, and moved back into the left lane, in back of me. I moved into the right lane to see exactly which model he had... was it an E500?

No, it was the 469-hp MB E55 AMG with a twin-turbo V8!

WOW!

Jason

ps- I'm sure he would've had me if we had a longer stretch of road... we only went from about 30 to 55 mph.

pps- Happy New Year everybody!
