patprice (or anyone else who may know),
i have a v6 and your description does not match my engine. at the rear of the manifold there is a T-network of vacuum tubes. i changed out the check valve that comes from the throttle body and runs into the manifold (the arrow points towards the throttle body, correct?). blew the old one out and it was filled with oil. it only allowed for one-way flow, but i put the new one in since i was not sure it was seating correctly due to all the oil/dirt inside it.
is this the piece you're speaking of? there is also another red/white check valve that runs towards the firewall that was replaced about a year ago.
thanks in advance...
