When I went through this exercise on our 2000 4 cylinder 9-5, I simply could not exert enough leverage to turn the drain plug by hand. I wound up removing the panel underneath the drain plug, then undoing the intercooler hose next to the drain plug and getting underneath the car to turn the plug from that position. You may want to give this approach a try. The plug was pretty stiff, but it seemed that once you got it loosened up it was fine in terms of effort needed to subsequently turn it.
