I wasn't aware it was possible to get used units. I've heard there is a sizeable core charge on the old ones, resulting in all the old ones remaining at the dealerships, etc.

After xmas, I've been a little tight on $ but a spare DI is on my list of things to get. What I plan on doing, and my advice to anyone else contemplating having a spare, is once you receive the new unit - install it.

Installing a DI is supposedly fairly easy - but do you want to learn for the first time at night at the side of a road if/when your DI goes. At your convenience learn how to install it, then keep the old as a spare in the trunk. If when your DI dies, swap in the old one to get home and once you go to the dealership swap the old one back in or whatever you agree to with the dealership such that in the end, you have a new DI under the hood, and the old spare is back in the trunk.

Just my thought. I've got nearly 52K on my '00 and I have to admit I have DI syndrome as well when I take road trips.
