The openings are filled (in the USA) with 6X9 woofers in Arc, Aero, and Linear models with the Prestige Audio Upgrade (part of the "Premium Package". The Presige Audio, sometimes called the "Harmon Kardon" audio, features a different EQ/power amplifier (having woofer channels) and different dash, front door, and rear door speakers. Both the Premium (yours)and the Prestige (what you aspire to) systems were carefully designed by real, live audio engineers to extract the best possible sound within the constraints of component cost and production vehicle speaker installations.
Simply adding a couple of speakers (along with a wired in power amp to drive them) to the back shelf won't necessarily produce the "better" sound of the Prestige system, although it will almost certainly add bass. You can make this car sound **fantastic**, given a "deep pocket" budget for individual drivers and electonics, dedication of some trunk space for electronics, and some instrumentation for testing the sound and some time adjusting the level and equalization of each sound channel. (The factory components are considered good for an OE installation, but there are "high end" components available which far exceed the budget under which the designers labored.) In between those two extremes would be extracting the Prestige audio components from a junkyard and installing them in your car.
Note that some on this list have installed different front speakers in the dash, and feel they have better "presence" and clearer high frequency sound.
