As others have said, water is a product of combustion. Acids are also produced. Your oil additives can neutralize them to some extent and changing the oil gets rid of them & new oil has fresh additives. Both the acids and water can corrode internal engine parts and exhaust systems. Short trips are hard on a car partly because the oil does not get hot enough to evaporate off the water and acids.
Make sure you frequently drive the car long enough, far enough and hard enough to thoroughly warm up the engine. I have heard that 5 miles is the minimum, but that is only a rule of thumb. FWIW, the rule of thumb for light airplanes is that they should be flown for a half hour after the oil temp reaches 180 degrees F.
