doesn't simply count bodies, like the USA Highway Deta Loss Institute does. Folksam inspects the crashed vehicle and other records to estimate the severity of the crash and normalizes the injuries against crash severity. There must be at least 100 serious crashes analyzed for statistical relevance, or the car doesn't get onto the list. Many of the 9-5s direct competitors - the latest E class, MBW 5 series, Latest Audi A6, and some Japanese competitors don't make it into the ratings for that reason.
The US HDLI data are good if you're setting insurance rates - demographics count, and to the extent that safer drivers gravitate toward a particular model, the rates for that model should be lower. The Folksam data are particularly useful for evaluating which car will protect you best in a crash. In their data, the 9-5 is in a class of its own. Even the antedeluvian Classic 900 is "20% better than average" in protecting its occupants from injury.
