235/45 -- some people have had good results with the added width (i.e., no rubbing). Although these are still 45's, because 45 is a percentage of 235, you'll have a greater sidewall than compared to 225/45's.
Furthermore, note that the type of tire you use will greatly affect ride quality as well. If you go for a luxury-oriented touring or grand touring tire (I like the Bridgestone Turanza's, but am not certain if they are available outside the States), you will have a softer ride than compared with an ultra-high performance tire. Obviously, you'll lose some performance benefits, but for 99% of driving situations, probably this won't be noticed.
